About Rockwell Mansion in Sun Valley, Idaho

The Broadford Road area just west of Bellevue, Idaho is unique for a number reasons. Surrounded by large privately held estates spanning the length of the meandering Big Wood River you'll find the enchanting Rockwell Mansion. Gracefully set upon 45 acres of land, this home stands as a reminder of the history of the region. Built by a US senator, it has played host to many notable dignitaries and has survived the test of time. Enhanced by mature mountain ash, elm, maple and linden trees, many planted by Senator Rockwell and his wife in the early 1900's, it is easy to fall in love with the charm of this park-like area. The main residence was originally built in 1915 and like many of the great mansions in the country, fell into an appalling state of disrepair. The current owner acquired the estate in 1992 after falling in love with the charm of the property and consequently lovingly restored the mansion to its former glory. What we see now is that perfect combination of the historic architectural model yet with modern day amenities. The interior is beautifully decorated with an eclectic mix of antique furniture combined with evidence of the owner's love of travel. The Victorian design exhibits abundant light through the plentiful windows and doorways, many of which lead to patios, decks or covered porches. The acreage is scattered with numerous buildings including a large log storage structure and a party barn perfect for large events or gatherings. One can imagine weddings, parties, indoor sports, or corporate functions as some of the many uses for this space. Speaking of potential, prior to the current restrictive riparian zoning restrictions being established, this land was subdivided into eight separately build-able lots including the current Rockwell Mansion site allowing for the construction of additional buildings, creating a family or corporate compound or parceling them off individually. To have a river running through your property is a wonderful thing, especially if the river happens to be crystal clear and full of native trout. The riparian experience doesn't end here as on the other side of the home there is a waterway connecting spring fed ponds which meander along the edge of the property. Located in the Wood River Valley, the home and its occupants are privy to all of the benefits of this spectacular part of the country. From swimming in the river in the beautiful summer months where the days are warm and the nights are cool, to skiing in the deep dry powder of Sun Valley's winters, this area has it all. Despite the myriad of outdoor and cultural opportunities the area has to offer, the moment you pass through the gate a you are transported to a world of tranquility and beauty. The calming effect achieved by spending time at this estate is priceless. It conveys the feeling of a plantation in the mountains complete with mature grounds and natural beauty. You can choose to take advantage of the huge potential or simply enjoy it for what it is, relaxing and serene.
